kitchen decor ideas

The kitchen is going to be one of the biggest jobs in the new house. Right now its a bare concrete room so we’re going to have to choose everything from flooring to the kitchen and tiles.  Here’s a sneak peek into some of our Kitchen Decor ideas.

First up the floor is really important to us and we have opted for pale wood. We currently have dark real wood floorboards and I tell you what with two white dogs is a nightmare. We have opted for engineered wood floor which has a cheaper price than real wood but doesn’t have that awful plastic sound of laminate. We are going to go for a pale, cool wood coloured floor, the Hygena Soft White Engineered oak from Homebase.

Kitchen wise the builder wants to use Howdens and that is fine with us. We love the Burford kitchen in the colour stone which is a pale greyish colour and we will go for metal bar handles. Counter tops wise we are opting for the white glass effect. I love the look of the above kitchen with white worktops, white brick tiles and the flash of pink so will definitely be bringing this into our kitchen. We love the white brick tiles and will be having these but with white grout.

At the moment the kitchen/diner is smallish but we plan to apply for planning and extend the room to fit in our dining table with wide patio doors at the end. We already own a farmhouse table and chairs which is painted so I will be sanding down the top to be a bit lighter and then oiling it. We’ll then look for a pretty bar light with three pendants on to hang over the table. We’d also like to add an island into the kitchen once it is bigger with a couple of stools at it eat breakfast or work at.

Details wise I love this marble clock and the storage baskets which would look great filled with cookbooks. I also would love to find some quirky storage jars for tea and coffee like these grey ones I found on Etsy. You might have spotted my new kettle and toaster on my instagram and I think this stainless steel theme will continue with our other appliances.

The walls will stay white and possibly once the extension is done we might add a small sofa down one end for the dogs to sit on (you can see who rules the roost eh?) Our dream would be for the extension to have a vaulted ceiling with a skylight in to lets lots of light in. We will of course have to wait quite a while for planning so when we first move in we will have to put our table against the wall. We will also need to think about where our fridge freezer, washing machine etc will go as at the moment we have a utility room, but Howdens does have lots of clever integrated options.

So thats a little look into what our Kitchen Decor ideas are. I’d love to know what you think??

Love this! Am in the process of choosing our new kitchen at the moment and we are going for a very similar thing. Not sure on our floor yet though as we have had engineered wood in the current kitchen and not 100% impressed with how it has worn in the 5+ years it has been down. Do you know what type of worktop you’re going for, as that’s the dilemma we are facing at the moment! xx

Ah has it not worn well then??
We think white glass effect work tops.

We have the engineered wood floors every where in our house except bathrooms and laundry room. We have had them for 6 years and they look awful! Our contractor told us they would be great. We had wanted real wood floors. He said they would especially be good for dogs nails mot scratching the floor..yen, not true. Besides scratches it dents.
And can somebody tell me how to clean the? I read not to use water or definitely not on of those mop and glow products. Just sweep it…? Not going to get the junky dirt off.
I definitely want those gray jars. But for my bathroom.
