London Fashion Week – Why I’m Clueless

February 22, 2012 2 Comments
Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the last week you’re probably aware that London Fashion Week has just taken place. Now I’m by no means a high fashion gal – I like my British High Street and I love my supermarket purchases like Tesco Clothing. But everyone knows what we buy in the shops is merely a dilution of what filters down from the catwalk and in that respect I find London Fashion Week incredibly exciting. I do of course have the occasional designer lust like for a Mulberry handbag (who doesn’t) or a Matthew Williamson dress but my heart will always be substance before style. Why buy one dress for £300 when you could have a whole wardrobe. I also know my tastes change so frequently that I like my fashion purchases to be disposable.
I’ve always wanted to go to LFW to absorb the atmosphere and to blog about the shows and the street style. I did try this year to register for LFW but in truth quite half heartedly and I was completely confused about whether it was actually neccassary. I also had no idea which shows to apply for or how to ask for tickets as in all honesty I’d opt for seeing River Island or New Looks new AW range come down a runway before I’d choose Christopher Kane or Stella Mcartney.  Topshop or Matthew Williamson which are the shows I would love to see I’d have no hope in hell securing tickets for.
In my heart maybe I feel too low brow or uncool for LFW to really believe I should be there. Like Gem Fatale says in her Fashion Week post if there was a charity shop/vintage Fashion week I’d be most definitely Front row with her!
However the available info for LFW virgins like me is pretty scarce and there’s no real clear cut instructions on how to apply for tickets etc. Its kinda of like if you don’t know how to get there, then you shouldn’t be there or a secret clan who’s handshake combination is the only way to get in – but you can’t ask how to do it!!
This week my Twitter feed has been full of street style snaps and catwalk pics and I must admit I’ve been pretty jealous of those people who went to LFW. Following a Twitter chat with Lauren from Lauren Loves Blog and Jen from Preta Style, Jen has written a post to help out all us LFW virgins and I do now vow to try harder to be there this September.
Read Jen’s post here
How many of you went to LFW? Any tips for newbies or were you like me too confused to apply??

I too was confused and also like yourself, thought that it maybe wasn’t the place for me and or that you had to be of some importance or known person to be involved.. so after reading in on twitter comments between yourself, lauren and Jen, I was happy to know I wasn’t the only one.lol
Havn’t got round to reading Jen’s post, but is on my list of ones to read before the weekend.
I’d love to just go for the environment and the experience and meet people, not quite to the degree of stalking outside, but you know what I mean.lol

I think there’s probably loads of us out there who feel like this! I’m definitely going in September!
