My top trends of 2010

February 7, 2011 No Comments

With the arrival of 2011 Spring Summer lines it’s time to say goodbye to the trends that made up 2010. Some are carried over with a new twist – military is now a softer Safari feel with lighter fabrics and textures and the Winter trend of animal fur has now transitioned into animal print and faux animal skin – croc, snake etc. I loved alot of 2010’s trends and below is a little run down of my top trends of 2010 and how I did them!

THE MAXI DRESS
It was the saviour of the Summer and the dress everyone was wearing – from glam to beach the maxi had your every need covered. I bought 3 and a maxi skirt, one a peacock print, one a graphic print, and one a floral – they got me through holidays, days out and a wedding – all in all the best all rounder of 2010.

TRIBAL PRINT AND THE HAREM TROUSER
I purchased 4 pairs of harem trousers – they are so comfy and versatile. My favourite pair mixes in the tribal  print trend too and are not for the faint hearted but I love em – worn with my favourite gladiator Blowfish sandals!!
GRAPHIC PRINTS
I loved this trend and wore a graphic inspired Prom dress (which was also on trend at the time) for my 29th birthday bash. It was Limited Edition by Red Herring and was an amazing neon yellow colour. I also tapped the trend to wear my Matthew Williamson drape dress for my friends birthday. Draping was all over the catwalk AW10 and this dress always made me feel fabulous!!

THE JUMPSUIT
The jumpsuit has become the new love of my life – I wonder now how I ever managed without it.
2010 was the year of the jumpsuit and the playsuit. I bought one playsuit, bright and floral and teamed it with sandals and a chunky belt over the summer, but my affair with the jumpsuit didn’t stop at just one.
My first was a River Island cropped leg drop back black jersey jumpsuit worn in Spain for cool nights out – and dressed up with heeled sandals
Jumpsuit no 2 – a floral number with a vintage feel bought in Cyprus and teamed with a waisted belt and sandals.
No 3 – Primarks famous Horse Jumpsuit – worn every which way from summer with sandals to Winter with chunky knits over the top.
No 4 – a black drape harem jumpsuit with Bib necklace bought for an Xmas party and teamed with sky scraper heels and hair to match!
(Even into 2011 my jumpsuit affair continues and my new purchase – which is one of Primarks great £15 jumpsuits is black and cream with gold button detail and stunning ruching on the legs – its my favourite so far!)

UTILITY AND MILITARY
I worked this trend all through 2010 – my utility shorts which I bought in 3 colours and wore all summer, my Vintage Parka which always comes out at Festival Season and my best buy of the year which was my Matalan Military coat. It was £30 with a discount code and I’ve never had it off.  V Festival is of course an opportunity to work all kinds of festival fashion; wellies – tick, scarf – tick; shorts – tick and parka – tick. I won’t tell you how long it took me to choose my One day Ticket outfit!!

SHEARLING AND FUR
As Winter crept in the shops were filled with fake fur and sheepskin lined items. I bagged myself a pair of Henry Holland boots in the Debenhams Christmas spectacular and thanks to the buckles they are still bang on for Spring 11. I also invested in an Leopard fur coat  – a great one from Boohoo.com with Vintage style buttons. It was warm and cosy and added instant glam to any outfit that outwear so rarely does.

SEQUINS
My instant glam dress and the best and easiest way to wear sequins has to be the French Connection Sequin Serpent dress. Its a classic and will always be bang on for parties, nights out, anything.
