A few weeks ago I was sharing on insta stories some of the films I’d been watching over the weekend and lots of you messaged me to say you loved them too and it got me to thinking about how many films there are that I LOVE to watch. There are some films that I can watch no matter how many times I’ve seen them and they will always make me feel good. Plus now its officially Autumn its definitely time to spend the weekend cuddled up on the sofa, blanket, chocolate and a really really good film. So here are my 14 Feel Good Films to watch this weekend.
no 1 – PITCH PERFECT
Ok this is by far one of my most watched films of all time. I had it saved on my virgin tv for two years and used to just watch it again and again. Now I have the dvd and the sequel too (which is good but just not quite as good as 1) and its just one of those films I just put on when I want to watch something and laugh and feel happy. I just love the whole film, the singing, the comedy and the final mash up is just soooo good. I recently downloaded both soundtracks too so I can sing away to it whilst I’m doing the washing up. Yep that’s how I roll AND I can’t wait for film number 3 which looks awesome. By far my fave feel good film.
no 2 – HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON
This is probably my favourite animated film of all time. If you haven’t seen it you are just missing out on such a funny, beautiful and sad (in parts) film. I love the music, the dragon Toothless is just so blummin cute and despite the fact I do usually get a bit teary towards the end I always end up so cheered up after watching it.
no 3 – HARRY POTTER
Harry Potter is my favourite film franchise of all time. I love every single film and if any of them if they are on the tv I have to sit down and watch them. Maybe not the most obvious feel good film choice as parts of the films are quite dark and actually very sad, but I never fail to have a smile on my face when I watch any Potter film.
no 4 – JERRY MAGUIRE
This is one of those films that grows on you I think. First time I saw it I was like hmmm not sure, but its a slow burner. Its not all about showing the money its about that end sequence and THAT living room speech. Once this film is finished I always feel happy, its a totally underrated feel good film so definitely watch it to the end.
no 5 – SCENT OF A WOMAN
Another slow burner film, this film is LONG! 2 hours 36 minutes to be precise, but again its all about that ending. That’s not to say there’s not some good stuff there in the middle. The tango scene is stunning and the scenes between Al Pacino and Chris O Donnell are so brilliantly acted. But the end, my word I love the last 15 minutes of the film so much and stayed up till 1am just to get to the end the other night. Al Pacino at his best and one of those cinema moments when you are just like YEAHH!!! Hoo-ah!!!
no 6 – THE MARTIAN
This is a relatively new addition to my favourite feel good films list but I just love this film. Its funny, its clever, the cinematography is stunning and actually I really like Matt Damon and he carries the film so well. Its got some really good music in there and it always leaves me on a really happy note. I’ve got it on blu ray and I have watched it a lot. Definitely worth a watch for anyone who hasn’t seen it.
no 7 – NOTTING HILL
Its a classic and it pips Love Actually to my list because I just love the cast. I’m not biggest Hugh Grant fan but the ensemble as a whole make this film. I love the race across London with them all in the car and the press conference scene is just brilliant.
no 8 – NEVER BEEN KISSED
Another romantic film but this one is a film I forget about a lot but when its on I’m like YAS!!! Its got some cool 80’s tracks in there as well as the super cute Michael Vartan who I always fancied in Alias. Love the ending, its one of my faves.
no 9 – INDIANA JONES
These films are literally the films of my childhood. Whenever I watch one I remember being a kid and sitting on the floor and watching it with my folks. I love Harrison Ford, I like the humour, the action and of course the music, I’m all about a good score you know. Any of the Indiana films, even the slightly crap Crystal Skull one make me very happy indeed.
no 10 – HOWLS MOVING CASTLE
I’m not a huge fan of all the Studio Ghibli films but this one is based on a book I read many many moons ago as a child. I had such a vivid memory of parts of it but couldn’t remember the name until I saw Film 2004 and Jonathan Ross talked about this new animated film and I recognized the story. I immediately bought myself the dvd when it came out and a first edition copy of the original book too. The film is beautifully animated, I quite like Christian Bale as Howl and it just leaves you really happy.
no 11 – ELF
Ok so this is a Christmas film and maybe its a littel bit too early for it but I just love this film. The randomness, the silliness and even Will Ferrell who I wouldn’t say I was normally a fan of. This film never fails to make me smile.
no 12 – WIMBLEDON
This is such an underrated romantic comedy. I love Paul Bettany I think he’s so likeable and I love the combination of love story and sporting hero story. Even if you know nothing about tennis like me you’ll love this romantic comedy.
no 13 – THE INTERN
I actually went to the premiere of this in London and was so surprised how much I liked it. Its almost a Devil Wears Prada role reversal for Anne Hathaway but its Robert De niro that steals the show, he’s so cute. A really funny and heartwarming film.
no 14 – CROSSROADS
Ok so this is my final choice and its my guilty pleasure film. Its Crossroads starring Britany Spears. I know, I know its awful but I just LOVE it! I love the whole road trip stopyline, the Britney is shy but can sing story and it doesn’t hurt that the guy Anson Mount is SUPER CUTE!! Plus you get to hear some Britney classics, all in all a quality feel good film in my eyes.
So that’s my 14 Feel Good films. Let me know what your faves are too and if you watch any of mine this weekend?
