5 Things to do at Coney Island New York

It seems like an age ago that I visited Coney Island during a blogging trip for the Michael Buble perfume launch. It was such a beautiful September day and the perfect weather to visit this seaside location, you wouldn't believe that this place is less than an hour away from central Manhattan. Its well worth a visit to Coney Island if you are staying in New York. Its easily reachable on the subway and even if the sun isn't shining there is plenty to see and do and lots of gorgeous photo opportunities too. So here are my top 5 things to do at Coney island New York.

WALK THE BOARDWALK

Start off your visit to Coney Island with a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk. This bleached wooden boardwalk stretches for over 2.5 miles along the sandy coast and is a really pretty walk. It will take you past the Coney island funfair as well as lots of eateries and drinks places. If its sunny then head across the sand to dip your toes in the Atlantic or grab a mango on a stick expertly cut into a flower by the street vendors.

EAT - TRY THE LOBSTER ROLL

 If you are hungry at Coney island, then you will find lots of food outlets and eateries along the boardwalk. Its definitely worth trying the lobster rolls at Pauls Daughter which were delicious or pick yourself some freshly caught fish or clams. Wash it down with an ice cold beer as you sit outside and watch the world go by!

DRINK FROZEN COCKTAILS

 I love the fact that being on holiday means you can sip a cocktail guilt free in the middle of the day. I recommend trying the frozen flavoured margaritas at Place to Beach along the boardwalk. But beware they are kick ass strong!! 

VISIT THE FUNFAIR

No trip to Coney Island is complete without a trip to the funfairs Luna Park and Deno's Wonder Wheel park. Opened in 2010 on the site of the old Astroland park, Luna Park is home to the famous Cyclone roller coaster, Thunderbolt and the Coney Island raceway. You can either wander round for free and take in all the sights, buy credits to ride or buy a Ride All Day wristband and go on everything as many times as you want!!

At Deno's Wonder Wheel Park you'll find a mix of adult and kids rides, including the Wonder Wheel which are pay per ride.

RIDE THE WONDERWHEEL

The Wonder Wheel is a pretty impressive sight from the ground, but if you really fancy a great view of Coney Island then take a ride on the wheel itself. If your not scared of heights you'll enjoy a view across the boardwalk and funfair as well as enjoying a ride that dates back to the 1920's. For those brave riders choose the Red or Blue cars which slide on rails within the wheel as the wheel rotates. For those that prefer a classic wheel ride choose the white cars.

So that's my Top 5 things to do at Coney Island New York. There are of course lots of other attractions to check out like the New York aquarium or the Coney Island Museum too. Its such an incredible place I would definitely suggest squeezing it in to your New York trip, you won't be disappointed.
