For today's post I thought I'd post my thoughts on some products I've been trying out over the last few weeks. I've decided to start this as a series called Tried & Tested where I can share with you my experience and opinion of products I've bought, been sent or received as free samples. I thought it would be a neat way to review lots of bits and bobs in one easy to read post. I've posted Favourites posts before but sometimes a product is good but not good enough to be called a favourite or indeed you might hate it! So these posts will feature ALL of my opinions, good or bad.
Today's Tried & Tested is a mix of haircare and skincare and features one of my current absolute faves!! Read on to find out which it is.
OGX FIBER-FULL SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER
I've spotted OGX before and I've always thought it looked lovely, I really like the bottle design (which is really important to me weirdly!) and so was really excited to try them out. I was sent the Bamboo Fibre-Full to test out and I'll be honest I have the thickest hair in the world so I wouldn't ever buy thickening types of haircare, but I really liked the shampoo. It left my hair feeling so clean and didn't feel like it left any kind of residue. The conditioner though I wasn't as big a fan of. It didn't give my hair that extra boost of moisture that it needs but I'm pretty sure that's because its not designed for that. Whether it left my hair fuller I don't know as I naturally have a whole heap of it, but the quality of the shampoo did impress me so much that I'm really keen to try the Hydrating Argan Oil one for example and I do think the quality justifies the slightly pricier price tag.
John Frieda Sheer Blonde In Shower Lightener
This little tube of a product was a bit of a surprise actually. The John Frieda Go Blonder in Shower lightener is designed to lighten your hair by one shade and brighten up your blonde in 5 minutes in the shower and I was pleasantly surprised to find it did just that! I applied it mostly to the ends of my hair to brighten up my ombre and left it on for the time specified and it really did give my blonde a lift of one shade I reckon and it looked really natural. No need for gloves or any faffing around mixing, you basically open it, squeeze the two tubes into your hands and apply. Leave on for 5 mins in the shower and bobs your uncle!
A great little product that I will definitely be purchasing again.
John Frieda Beach Blonde Shampoo & Conditioner
I think you can tell by the absence of any product in the bottles that I loved these two. The John Frieda Beach Blonde Cool Dip Shampoo smells amazing like mint and left my hair and head feeling so clean and so fresh. I used it on holiday and it really refreshed my head after a long day in the sun but also I finished off the bottle once I was home too as I just adored it so much.
The John Frieda Smooth Seas Detangling conditoner was also brilliant paired alongside it. The conditioner smelled just as nice and left my hair soft and really easy to comb through. Honestly can't rave about these two enough and not just for Summer I think, a brilliant all year round pairing.
Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud Body Creme
This is the first Jo Malone Body Creme that I've tried. I've featured Jo Malone Fragrances and Jo Malone Candles before so it was lovely to try something else from their repertoire. The packaging as always is super luxe and for many the main draw of Jo Malone, I mean who doesn't love nice packaging? The gloss black tub feels really heavyweight and the smell is so rich and luxurious. The Velvet Rose & Oud Body Creme is a deeper more floral scent than I have previously tried but is still gorgeous and the body creme is thick and very very rich and a little goes a long way so this tub would last you ages.
As always top notch from Jo Malone and still one of my all time fave luxurious brands.
Biore Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub
This Biore Baking Soda Cleansing scrub has its plus sides and its minus sides. I love the actual product itself. Mix the powder with some warm water in your hand and it foams into a light but naturally exfoliating cleanser. It left my skin fresh and so clean and did help with problem areas like my nose.
However I'm not a big fan of how the product comes out. It has a little flip lid and you tip the powder into your hand but I find way too much comes out and as you only need a small amount because it foams up so much, this does lead to wastage.
Brilliant product though, shame about the packaging.
Biore Charcoal Pore Minimizer
The second of my Biore products this Biore Charcoal Pore Minimizer I picked up myself in Superdrug. I love anything charcoal and I do struggle with pores on my nose so was hoping for a really thick and mud like product, sadly that's not what this product is. The product is squeezed out of the toothpaste style top and although has the colour of charcoal is more like a traditional cleansing wash in its texture.
Now it cleansed my skin lovely but I was disappointed not to have that satisfying feeling of washing off a charcoal mask. But if you read the instructions more closely, it does say "activates with water and foams" so actually this product does exactly what it says on the tin.
Frank Body Coffee Scrub Original
You might have seen this Frank Coffee Scrub popping up all over the blogosphere recently, people can't seem to get enough of it, so let me tell you what I think!
The scrub is almost 100% ground coffee with added salt to help exfoliation, vitamin E for anti ageing and almond oil for hydration.
First I LOVE the packaging. Its so cool and looks like something you would have in your cupboard but be careful where you store it! This brown paper packaging if it gets wet does go a bit of a funny colour, which doesn't look so nice on your shelf. I would want to keep mine on the edge of the bath/near shower but its not that waterproof so that's not really an option. It is foil lined so the packet wont get wet and split but its paper finish isnt really shower appropriate I think.
The packet is resealable which is good and it does smell amazing. Now this stuff is supposed to be messy, but I did find a lot of it just dropped into the shower rather than staying on my skin like a lot of other shower exfoliators do. However I did like how soft it left my skin so I am going do persevere with it and finish the pack and then really decide.
Its not the cheapest at £11.95 a bag but it does go a long way and it does smell freakin amazing in the morning so I think I would rate it worth a try!
Vita Liberata Body Blur
This Vita Liberata Body Blur is the bees blummin knees. Its designed to give skin a hd flawless finish whilst also giving it a slight bronzed glow. To give you an idea of what its like think Benefit Porefessional mixed with instant tan! I love it! I wear it on my legs for a instant tan but also it smooths out my skin and makes my legs look flawless so no need to wear tights.
I have yet to try it on my face but as the tube is huge and a little goes a really long way I'll definitely have time.
Definitely my fave of this whole post!
starskin Red Carpet Ready Hydrating Cellulose Mask
I got this Starskin Red Carpet ready mask in a goody bag I think and I've been meaning to try it out for a while. You are pretty much guaranteed to have seen this alien-like mask on tv and I'll be honest you do look like something from silence of the lambs whilst wearing it, but this one did leave my skin looking fresh, bright and feeling really hydrated. I reckon I would buy one of these again to use right before an important event maybe, to give my skin a boost now that I've tried them out. Plus you can get them at ASOS so next day delivery! whoop!!
Hope you've enjoyed Tried & Tested #1. Next Tried & Tested is beauty so keep an eye out for that!
