Skinny Tan 7 Day Tanner – Review Post

Skinny Tan 7 Day tanner, Pre Tan Primer and mitt*

I’m a big fan of a good fake tan but I’m not a fan of the awful biscuit smell or the streaky finish alot of them can leave you with. This fake tan called Skinny Tan claims to solve both these issues AND help reduce the appearance of cellulite and tone your legs and arms, so I was excited to try it out.

Firstly I’m not a huge fan of the packaging. I think the colour and design is a bit drab and dull. The bottles are good sizes though in terms of how much you get.
I used the Pre Tan primer first. This is a basic exfoliator you use in the shower before using the tanner. It smelled lovely and did a good job of smoothing my skin especially the rough areas like my knees and elbows. However I think it could do with being a little thicker as its watery consistency meant I lost alot in the shower!

When it came to apply the 7 Day tanner although the included mitt felt gorgeous and velvety I found I didn’t get as even a finish as I do with my good old Primark £1 mitt so I used that instead. The tanner doesn’t have the awful horrid fake tan smell which is most definitely its biggest plus point. It had quite a strong guide colour which looks really dark and helps you get the product on evenly. I found the product didn’t stay workable for long and did start to rub off in patches when you tried to rub it in. I was a bit terrified it would be so patchy when I woke up next day.

The tan needs 5 hours to develop and they say longer is even better so I decided to leave it on overnight. Judging by the guide colour I expected such a gorgeous deep tan but I have to say I was really disappointed with the depth of colour once I showered. The tone of colour itself was great, really natural and not orange at all, plus it had no streaking or patchiness at all either!! But for the amount of effort, applying all over with the mitt, trying to protect my bedding over night, all the usual palava you go through with fake tan, the pay off didn’t seem worth it.

I looked at some other reviews who also mentioned this and they advised reapplying. Which I did and I did notice a build and an improvement in the colour. However once again the effort was great considering the colour achieved.
*
I see this product more as a gradual tanner and not a traditional fake tan. However it has some major plus points. Firstly its smell which is actually really nice; second the tone of tan achieved is very golden and very natural and has lasted very well and third it developed with no streaks at all. I did also notice a definite toning appearance to my legs especially, which I was really surprised by. I didn’t expect this to live up to its claims but it did and I reckon with continued use this would only be increased.
As for its downsides it was very hard to apply evenly and the guide colour gives a very false sense of what you might get. But if your happy to reapply two or three times you will be left with a pretty fabulous tan that will last and a beautifully toned tan too.

Have you tried Skinny Tan? What are your thoughts??
