Everybody’s DIY journey has to start somewhere. Mine really started 3 years ago when I had no tools, no equipment after always using my partners and so I started again from scratch, my life & my toolkit. I started off by buying tools second-hand off @facebookmarketplace and building up my knowledge and skill before adding better and more complex tools to my kit. I’m pretty much a “have a go” kind of person with some YouTube tutorials watched I’m always keen to try new skills. I feel like my DIY skills have come on so much these last 3 years. And that’s just from trying and learning as I go. What’s your diy journey?

DO YOU THINK THIS IS SNEAKY? I bought these big canisters from a charity shop for £3 but mostly because I loved the lids. The jars themselves are way too big to fit on my counter. So I hunted about for clear glass canisters I could swap the lids to and found these ones in @therangeuk I gave the lids and jars a good clean with my @scrubdaddyuk *pr product and sanded and rewaxed them before adding them on to my new glass jars. I’ve then put the bamboo lids on the cleaned up charity shop canisters (that are actually M&S) and plan to list them on Facebook Marketplace and make my money back. Sneaky swap or genius idea? What do you think?

I couldn’t squeeze in all the amazing moments from our Disney & Universal Orlando trip. From screaming on Tron Lightcycle, to crying happy tears as we flew on Flight of Passage, laughing our asses off on Cosmic Rewind and cuddling characters, we crammed so much into two weeks I would need an hour reel to show you it all. So many happy childhood memories at @disneyparksuk from my trips in the 90’s and so glad I got to share them all again with Kit. Can’t wait to go back! #ourdisneyadventures

HOW TO PAINT IKEA FURNITURE Here’s my top tips for painting any kind of laminate @ikeauk furniture
Sanding is the most important part. It needs a good “scuff” sand to break up the surface and give the paint something to cling on to. I use my @ryobitoolsuk palm sander *ad pr product and usually 180 grit paper which won’t scratch the surface too much.
Clean it all with sugar soap this is important to do to get rid of any grime or oils that will stop the paint sticking - you can hoover off the dust too.
If you use the right paint you won’t ever need to prime. My top choice is @makeitrustoleum Furniture paint *ad pr product it is self-priming which means it can go straight on after a really good “scuff” sand to ready the surface and a good clean.
Painting lots of thin coats is so much better than trying to do 1 or 2 thick coats and I like to leave plenty drying time between coats to really let the paint go off and harden.
I paint with a @harrisbrushes_uk fine mohair roller *prev partner . It gives the smoothest finish.
Sanding in between coats too will smooth out any bumps and give you an even smoother finish.
For high traffic areas like the top of the Malm you can add a coat of sealant or wax but the paint doesn’t require it.

SPEEDY CHEATS SUMMER MOJITO I love this summery cocktail using some Mexican lime & elderflower fizz I spotted in @lidlgb Kind of a version of a mojito which is one of my favourite cocktails, & so refreshing. This recipe uses white rum and a small teaspoon of sugar to add that sweetness but you don’t need much as the fizz has elderflower sweetness to it. You could also pop some fresh mint on top but sadly this heatwave has killed my last few leaves off. What do you think? Is this your kind of Summer drink?

I love to take 10 minutes in the afternoon to sit and swing in the sunshine, calm my mind and switch off briefly. I NEED YOUR HELP! I got this sideboard on @faceboo

I NEED YOUR HELP! I got this sideboard on @facebookmarketplace last year for £10. I liked the shape and the legs but had no idea what was under all that paint. Inside it’s marked Remploy and the inside is still teak faux wood. I decided to sand it all down and discovered that not much solid wood exists. As I suspected it’s ply with a faux wood veneer layer. But I think maybe with some careful sanding and restaining the doors & drawers could look great but I reckon the rest will need painting. What do you think? I’d love to sell this piece on and make it a lovely sideboard again. Would you paint parts? And what colour? Let me know in the comments

WHY I FIND DIY SO MINDFUL I’m a big worrier, an over-thinker and a very anxious person. My brain is so busy most of the time which can be pretty exhausting. DIY and being crafty has always been how I relax, how I settle my anxiety and find a calm. Focussing on a creative task is so mindful to me and I think I’ll always have to have a creative outlet in my life as it’s so important to my mental health. What about you? FACEBOOK TABLE FLIP - this coffee table turned out beautiful after a bit of hard work. It needed a few repairs and just a light sand before staining it a dark oak to bring out all that grain! Fun fact : it’s not solid wood but even thin wood grain can be sanded and refinished if you are careful. The base is painted in my fave black paint @sophiejamesdecorpaint - it has amazing coverage and finish and the whole lot has been sealed and waxed. It’s already sold to one of my best pals so can’t wait to see it styled up in her living room. What do you think of the final result? #facebookmarketplace
