Ilumi Boost Your Energy Gluten Dairy Free Diet – Lifestyle

March 13, 2014 1 Comment

I have been dairy and gluten intolerant for over 9 years now and do struggle sometimes to find quick meals to eat on the go and new recipes to try. When I was asked to trial Ilumi’s 7 Day Boost Your Energy Dairy and Gluten free diet in a box I jumped at the chance.
Illumi is based in County Durham and all their meals are nut, gluten and dairy free. Their 7 Day Boost Your Energy is designed to make you feel better inside and out. It comes all in one box with enough dishes for 7 days worth of breakfasts, lunches and dinners and with some snacks and 2 gluten free beers too!!
You can add free from items like pasta or bread rolls and fruit and vegetables to the diet too.
Here’s what my diet plan looked like (the menu came based on Saturday to Friday but I started it on a Monday – and Ilumi say you can move things around if you wish)

All breakfasts – Gluten free porridge
Monday Lunch -Moroccan Veg Tagine
Monday Dinner – Beef Meatballs & Free From pasta
Tuesday Lunch – Spanish Rice and Vegetables
Tuesday Dinner – Chilli Con Carne and Rice
Wednesday Lunch – Pea & Pancetta Soup with a free from roll
Wednesday dinner – Pork with Mushrooms and Madeira and Rice
Thursday Lunch – Butternut Squash Soup
Thursday Dinner – Slow Cooked Beef Casserole
Friday Lunch – Tomato and Red Pepper soup
Friday Dinner – Harrisa Style Chicken
Saturday Lunch (Was at LFWend so missed a meal – bad blogger!!!)
Saturday Dinner – Kerala Chicken Curry & Rice and a Gluten free Beer
Sunday Lunch – Chicken Cacciatoria and Rice
Sunday Dinner – Lamb Casserole
Snacks
Syrup flavoured oat biscuits
Nairns Oatcakes
Shopping List
Tub of Blueberries for my porridge
Almond Milk
Big Bag of Spinach
Free From Penne
6 pack of Free From Rolls

I really enjoyed my diet. Now its true that lot of the dishes are curry or spicy based and sometimes this proved a problem for me as I am quite sensitive to spices too. However EVERYTHING tasted amazing. My particular favourites were the chilli which was sooooo rich and yummy and the Kerrala Chicken curry which was mild and coconut flavoured. Everything tasted so fresh and full of flavour.
All dishes can be kept in the cupboard they don’t have to be refrigerated and they all take 1-2 mins to microwave so are super quick. I really enjoyed the diet so much. This particular one costs £40 for the week and comes next day delivery. I think that is such good value for money when Free From food is often so expensive. You can also order individual items from the website too.

I honestly liked it so much I have just placed another order today as I have to work late every night next week and so these meals are so convenient and tasty. This time I have altered my order to remove the more spicy items and replaced them with simpler dishes like Chicken Casserole or Beef Casserole (but I have added the chilli again because I loved that!)
If you are gluten and/or dairy free or just want to try some quick tasty dishes I do really recommend Ilumi. I think I will  continue to buy their dishes for busy weeks at work as they are so quick.

Let me know if you do try them out?
