Westfield London Car Bootique Event

October 1, 2011 No Comments

I went to the Car Bootique event at the Westfield Shopping Centre Shepherds Bush this week. Ten major brands are taking the idea of a bootsale and giving it a luxury twist. Brands included River Island, Reiss, Ted Baker, Biba at House of Fraser, French Connection and Firetrap.

Each Merecedes-Benz was decorated to fit in with each brand and all the boots were filled with wonderful luxury goodies, with prize draws and discounts going on all week.

I thought the idea of a bootsale was quite apt, there’s plenty of parallels between shopping for the new Autumn Winter 11 trends and shopping at bootsales.

1. Arrive Early – The Autumn/Winter trends feature on the catwalk as early as February- plenty time to prepare for your new wardrobe.
2. Haggle – Always hunt for the best deal on your new Autumn Winter pieces – with over 100 Women’s clothing stores at Westfield London your sure to find a bargain piece.
3. Look for specific items – The key to Autumn Winter 11 shopping is to pick a few key pieces such as a great coat or boots and work your new wardrobe around these.
4. Wear sensible shoes – Though this may apply to the muddy field you may find a bootsale in, every good shopper knows to stay the shopping distance sensible shoes are key even in a nice warm dry shopping centre!
This “Bootique” Bootsale was quite different from the kind of boot sales we’ve become accustomed to. Most of us picture a damp and cold field in the middle of nowhere with rows and rows of trestle tables but don’t dismiss the bargains that can be found at boot sales and worked into your new AW11 wardrobe.

Here’s three looks by brands featured at the Westfields Car Bootique and how to incorporate a bootsale bargain into the look.

Trend – Bright knits
Chunky knits in bright primary colours are hot this AW as well as details such as stripes or spots.
Green/Pink Aran Swing Jumper £35 River island
Navy Pencil Print Scarf £28 River island
Hunt at your bootsale for some brightly coloured bangles and necklaces and layer up to complete the look.

Trend – Rock/Biker Chic
This look is all about worn leather and ripped textures.

Paradise Tshirt £57.50, Hooder Scarf £40 and Leggings all Firetrap
Scour the bootsale for some old worn work boots to complete your Biker Chic look.
Trend – Heritage
Think English eccentric, fabrics include tweed, fur and leather.

Coat £195, Alana Clutch £120, Juines Heels £160 all French Connection

Find a fantastic Fedora at your local bootsale to finish off this Heritage look.
