I'm back with another Buy or DIY Post and this time its a Tortoiseshell Button vest diy. Everything on the high street seems to be covered in buttons right now and any tortoiseshell or horn buttons seems to be the button of choice. Of course there are loads of options to buy and I've linked some of my faves at the bottom but if you want to jazz up an existing top you have or a plain one from the High Street then try this super easy peasy DIY.
I found my knit style vest top at Zara for only £12.99 and I bagged these cute buttons at a fabric shop in jar for 10p each. This style of button is quite old fashioned so you might find them at charity shops too. Go for a slightly larger size than your top already has and this DIY of course will work exactly the same on a dress, skirt or anything really.
So here's what you need
STEP ONE
CAREFULLY SNIP OFF THE EXISTING BUTTONS WITH SMALL SCISSORS
STEP TWO
PLACE THE BUTTONS ON THE TOP TO HELP YOU CHOOSE THE SIZE, I WENT FOR THE SMALLER SIZE OF THE TWO.
STEP THREE
START WITH THE TOP BUTTON AND SEW AND ANCHOR STITCH
STEP FOUR
YOU'LL NEED TO SEW THROUGH THE BUTTON HOLE OF THE TOP AS THE LARGER BUTTONS MAY NOT FIT THROUGH THE EXISTING HOLES.
STEP FIVE
SEW YOUR BUTTON ON NICE AND TIGHT
STEP SIX
WORK YOUR WAY DOWN THE BUTTONS SEWING EACH USING THE FOUR HOLES IN A CRISS CROSS STYLE
I love how this turned out. I'm taking it with me to Miami most definitely. If DIY isn't your thing then lucky you there are SOOOOOO many options to buy right now so here are a few of my favourites!
