Buy or Diy | Peony & Hydrangea Floral Wreath Tutorial

Today's post is another BUY or DIY post. After seeing this gorgeous peony and hydrangea wreath in store but it was quite expensive at £27 I decided to see if I could do a diy floral wreath that was as nice but cheaper. I started off sourcing my flowers from The Range, Dunelm, IKEA and the £1 shop and I've used my flowers across three DIY's so I spent approx £10 on flowers for this wreath. I tried to stick to a white pink and green palette and I didn't manage to find exactly the same colour of flowers as the Dunelm wreath as they are beautifully muted but I love the colours I used. Of course you can buy any colours of flowers you like to do this diy. I added in some of eucalyptus as I love this very soft green colour of foliage.
For the base of the wreath I found an identical willow wreath base in the sale at Dunelm for £2. It had sparkly Christmas bits on it so I removed these so I had a plain base. A willow type wreath base is perfect for this as you can poke your flowers in all around it. You can pick these wreath bases up in a garden centre or online for around £3. So the total cost was £12 for the diy floral wreath as I already had ribbon and a glue gun. It may cost you a little more if you don't have ribbon but you could use normal glue it doesn't have to be a glue gun, this is just quicker.

So here's what you need to do to make this gorgeous floral wreath.

WREATH BASE | FAUX FLOWERS | SNIPS OR SCISSORS | GLUE | TAPE

STEP ONE

Start by snipping off your flowers and foliage off the main stems of your artificial flowers.

STEP TWO

Keep a short length of stem or wire to be able to thread into the willow wreath to set your flowers position.

STEP THREE

Start placing your larger flowers on the wreath to work out your design and spacing. Thread their stems into the wreath base but don't glue yet. I had three large peony heads so I placed these at equal spacing but at different angles.

STEP FOUR

Once you are happy glue your larger flowers to the wreath base. Start to build up your smaller flowers in between your larger ones keeping the arrangement random and trying to mix colours. Glue in to place.

STEP FIVE

When you snip of the hydrangeas you may find you end up with lots of little stems so use tape to attach a few heads together and then push into the wreath and glue.

STEP SIX

Once you've filled the whole wreath take a look and fill any gaps you can see with smaller blooms and add greenery in around the wreath too.

FINAL STEP

Thread some ribbon through the back of the willow wreath for hanging and cut to the length you want. I kept mine really long so I could hook it on the other side of the door and hang it over.

FINISHED!

And that's it! Finished!! I love how pretty the Diy floral wreath is and how it was less than half the price of the Buy wreath option.  Plus you can custom make it to your size and colours. Hang it on your bedroom door or outside on your front door too!

If you don't fancy the diy then you can shop the BUY option floral wreath here.

Let me know in the comments if you will be team BUY or team DIY for this diy floral wreath?
