Festive Things to Do in London this December

November 30, 2017 1 Comment

A couple of weeks ago me and Laura headed off to London for a very festive day out. We travelled in to London from Essex nice and comfy on a very nice c2c rail train which is the first time I'm traveled c2c and I was pretty impressed. I was wearing my cosiest leopard coat and bobble hat all ready for a day of fun activities. We fitted in so many festive activities that it not only left me feeling suitably Christmassy but I really wanted to share what we got up to in a blog post. So here are my ideas of Festive Things to do in London this December.

Festive Things to Do in London this December
One - Get a Festive coffee

Now I'm normally a caramel macciato girl and nothing normally makes me stray from this firm favourite but there is nothing to get you in the Christmas spirit quicker than a spiced pumpkin latte or gingerbread latte. It doesn't have to be a Starbucks, but its got have that Christmas flavour I think.

I do love a coffee and its usually a treat I allow myself when I head into London and I grab one at the station, I like to drink mine whilst wandering around

You officially know its Winter when Starbucks releases their red cups don't you think? I love the design on this years cup.

Its the perfect start to a festive day out.

Two - Take an obligatory photo of Liberty London

You might have to elbow lots of other photo takers out the way to get this shot as its probably the most popular thing to take photos of in this area of London. There is a running joke that if you don't take a photo of Liberty's flowers then did you even go? ha ha

Right now you'll find Liberty's covered in fairy lights with Christmas trees on the balcony high up. The famous flower stall at the front is now full of fresh wreaths featuring pine cones and glitter and a gorgeous fir tree just inside decorated with ornate Christmas decorations.

Definitely one for your festive day hit list.

I am addicted to buying Christmas decorations much to my husbands despair. I do love to pick up a couple of new ones each year and it always gets me in such a Christmassy mood browsing Christmas shops. Liberty's had a gorgeous Christmas shop all arranged into colour sections and so festive even if you don't buy anything. I always head straight for the white section which is my favourite and I especially love glass decorations.
Other great places to head for really special Christmas decorations in London are Harrods, Covent Garden market and Selfridges too.

Four - Check out Carnaby Streets Christmas lights

For a festive day out in London definitely head to Carnaby Street, not only for some gift shopping but also to check out the amazing Carnaby Street Christmas lights. This year the street has been transformed with a tropical Carnival display full of parrots and is soooo colourful and so beautiful. Its well worth stopping by and having a look and getting a snap of this unique display.

Five - Find pretty Christmas Lights

I adore Christmas lights. I could look at them all day. If you are heading into London there are so many places to discover the prettiest Christmas lights. You can head to some of the most popular and well known places for lights like Covent Garden where you'll also find a stunning Christmas tree, Bond street or Leicester Square. But you could also seek out some gorgeous lights in tucked away streets or squares like Seven Dials or inside Kingly Court near Carnaby Street (in pics below).

Twinkly lights are bound to get you in the festive spirit and my favourite part of Christmas.

Six - Eat, Drink & be Merry

There are so many gorgeous places to eat in London and ok so we didn't end up somewhere particularly festive but we discovered this gorgeous Japanese restaurant Shoryu inside Kingly Court and we had the biggest and yummiest feast. Thanks to all the lights inside though we did feel a bit festive.

Other great places to head in London for festive food are Borough market and Shoreditch where you can grab amazing street food and sit outside wrapped in your cosiest coat.

Seven - Outdoor Ice Skating

There is nothing more festive than outdoor ice skating. There are so many places where you can skate outside by fairy lights. We discovered the rink at Skylight bar at the Tobacco Dock where you could skate with a view of London.
We only sat and watched the other brave skaters while sipping on lovely warm mulled cider but it was so Christmassy and festive and such an amazing view.

Other places to have a go at outdoor ice skating is Natural History Museum London Rink, Somerset House rink or The Tower of London Rink.

Make sure you've got your warm clothes on and a pair of gloves in case you fall!!

What I Wore

Hope you have loved my ideas for Festive Things to do in London. If you are heading into London over the next few weeks definitely try out a few of these to get yourself in the Christmas spirit.
