My sale Shopping Tips

September 10, 2015 1 Comment

Anyone who reads my blog or knows me, knows that I LOVE a good sale bargain. I think its something I get from my mum who is also a big fan of bagging a bargain. Over the years I’ve learnt the best ways to maximize on sales, how to shop them sensibly and what the best items to buy are, so when Think Money challenged me to shop the sales with a £50 budget and then share my bargains I said YES! And I thought I would share my Sale Shopping Tips too along with what I bought.

My first top tip for shopping the sales is “Buy what you like“. Don’t buy something that isn’t your style just because its cheaper. This is a sure fire way to end up with a wardrobe full of items you don’t wear. I like to stick to shops and the style of items I like to wear all year round that way I know I’ll be buying pieces I like.

My second top tip is “Buy for the next Season” ie if its an end of summer sale don’t buy loads of summery pieces that you’ll only get a couple of weeks of wear out of. Buy items that will transition through to the next season. The only exception to this is if you are lucky enough to be going on an out of season holiday, so Spain in September for example then the summer sales are the perfect time to pick up some bargains like summer dresses or kaftans for your holidays.

Lastly my final top tip is “Set yourself a budget” I always think its a good idea to have a sales budget that way you wont come home having spent more than you expected. For this challenge I was set a budget of £50 and with all my tips in mind here’s what I bought.

My first buy was this lovely sleeveless coat from River Island. Its camel colour which is still a big colour for Autumn Winter and is perfect for layering over knitwear and for right now it works great over a t-shirt. At £30 down from £50 it was my most expensive buy but I’ve been wearing it non stop and that’s a saving of 40%. Catch it in my Things to Do In London post. This is a great example of a sale buy that will transition well into the next season.

Next I picked up some flared jeans from New Look. Flares are a key shape for denim into Autumn Winter so a great buy and one that will continue to get worn throughout the next season. Darker denim is the best colour to buy and this pair was £11 down from £24.99 which is over 50% off.

I love jewellery shopping in the sales but the rules still apply. This statement necklace will work well into Autumn Winter as gold and precious stones like turquoise will still be on trend. I’m going to wear this over a roll neck jumper which I think will look so nice. This necklace was part of New Look’s Limited Collection and was down from £12 to £4 so it was an absolute steal.

Lastly I bought a kimono from New Look too. This item slightly breaks my rules in that its quite a summery item for heading into AW, but I loved the print and I do think it will work well into Autumn layered up over something long sleeved but maybe not into Winter. But at £7 down from £19.99 it was too much of a bargain to leave behind.

In total I spent £51 and saved nearly £32 and got a good selection of pieces that I can continue wearing into the next season.

Hope you enjoyed my Sale Shopping Tips and a look at what I bought from the sales in store. I’ve linked some other great sale buys from New Look and River Island down below if you fancy snapping yourself up a sale bargain.
