Todays post is another DIY. You guys loved my Jar Diy’s so much that I want to share more quick simple ideas for reworking items into something new. This Gold Pineapple Ice Bucket DIY is all about transforming this pretty vintage ice bucket. I spotted this beauty in a charity shop for £3 and instantly thought how great it would look gold. It has such a pineapple shape to it and gold pineapple homewares are massive at the moment that I knew this would be perfect. It had a small chip to the lid but I knew once sprayed this would be hardly noticeable.
I’ve chosen to go gold with this one but white would have also looked really cool or copper.

This Gold Pineapple Ice Bucket DIY could also be applied to candlesticks or bowls – anything really that you spot that has a lovely shape would work well.

First you want to give the glass piece a really good wash in soapy water and dry. Then mask off the inside rim and fill with newspaper or tissue to prevent the inside from getting sprayed.

Set out your sprayng area. I always spray outside due to the fumes and you also want a day thats not too windy. Protect your area with plenty of newspaper including behind and plenty beneath it. Bear in mind there will always be some overspray so better to cover a big area.
Give the whole thing including the lid a light coat of primer. Leave to dry for at least and hour and then repeat. Lots of light coats are best and help you avoid drips. Make sure you turn the item over so you get every inch covered.

When you’ve primed it turn the item upside down and give the item a light spray with your colour.  Leave to dry and repeat.
Then turn the item and again spray two light coats making sure you turn the item and get every inch. Don’t forget too to spray the inside of the lid.

Once dry don’t use a clear sealer spray as you will lose the metallic finish  however some varnishes will maintain it if you want to seal the colour in.
Display your cool reworked gold piece however you wish. I’m keeping mine on a shelf as a statement piece but you could also use it for storage or even to put flowers in.

I’m on the lookout for some glass candlesticks as I’d really like to try this technique on some. What do you think of my Gold Pineapple Ice Bucket DIY??
Let me know if you give this a go.
