Destination Dreams – My Travel Bucket List

April 30, 2015 7 Comments

Its not often you’re asked the question “What are your Top 3 Bucket List Travel destinations?” but Transun asked just that and I’ll be honest it didn’t take me long to answer. My Travel Bucket list has had the same places on it for several years now and although some I’ve been lucky enough to go to already; Japan was ticked off in 2011 and the Maldives in 2013, there’s still three places I dream of visiting and haven’t quite managed to go to yet.

NEW YORK

New York has always been one of those places I’ve wanted to go. It’s been on my Travel Bucket list forever and I just haven’t quite made it that far across the pond.  My dream is to go just after Christmas while the trees and the festive lights are still up and despite the fact it will definitely be cold and even some inclement weather like snow might occur, I can’t help but think this would be a beautiful time to visit. Maybe it’s the years of watching Home Alone 2 that’s given me this sense that New York at Christmas is magical but I can’t wait to go and see the tree at Rockefeller Centre and go ice skating, or drink hot chocolate after a chilly walk around Central park. There’s so many things I want to do in New York; see the incredible Empire State building, the Statue of Liberty, ride in a yellow taxi (it has to be done), catch a show on Broadway and of course try to grab a few January sale bargains (well why not??) but mostly I just want to go and soak up the atmosphere of such an iconic and amazing place. I’ve all my fingers crossed that we make it there this year and I can finally cross it off my list.

ICELAND

Iceland is most definitely second on my bucket list after NYC, but it’s definitely not on my other half’s!! He hates being cold which I think kind of puts him off  colder destinations but for me it’s another incredibly magical place that I really hope I get to go to one day soon. Not only can you experience one of the worlds most incredible natural phenomena; the Northern Lights, but you can have some other out of this world experiences too like a husky safari, or travelling by reindeer sleigh or even riding snowmobiles – all of which are included and organised for you in one of Transun’s brilliant packages by the way!! I can’t even imagine how exciting it would feel to race across a frozen lake on a snowmobile or command my own team of sled dogs but I love the whole adventure of it all and that’s what makes this destination so exciting.  Even though it’s not your traditional sun drenched beach holiday I love the idea of being able to cosy up for the evening in front of a log fire after a fun day in the snow, it sounds pretty cool to me don’t you think?  And it is a genuine dream to see the Northern Lights which I’m told are just beautiful. I know my husband would have an incredible time if we were ever to go; it just looks like the most amazing place and a definite adventure.

RIO DE JANEIRO

MARDI-GRAS-FLAT-LAY

Rio de Janeiro is on my travel bucket list but more importantly it’s Rio during the Mardi Gras Carnival in February.  Rio itself is a beautiful place but when the carnival is on the city comes to life with colour, music and well over 2 million people by all accounts on the streets each day!!!! How crazy is that?  I think much like New York at Christmas this sounds like an incredible time to visit. I want experience the music, the costumes, the dancing and just the whole atmosphere of the carnival really. I’d also love to try some of the Brazilian cuisine from the countless street food vendors around during the parades as well as joining in with some serious partying Rio Carnival style!  I would definitely make time for a visit to see the Christ the Redeemer statue too as just like the Northern Lights or the Empire State building this is something I really want to see once in my life.

So that’s my bucket list of places I’m desperate to travel to. Fingers crossed I make some of these destination dreams come true pretty soon!

I’d love to know your Travel Bucket List?? Where do you dream of going to?

What a lovely post. Although I have so many places that I’d love to visit I’ve never thought to make a post about it.

With New York I have the same idea as you… as much as I’d love to go in the Summer the Winter seems so much more magical. I’d love to visit Rockefeller centre and ice skate by the pretty Christmas tree in the Christmas holidays so that I can wear a hat, scarf, gloves and a snuggle, big, warm coat. Also, just imagine central park with all of that beautiful snow – how beautiful!

I’d also love to go to Iceland. Viewing the Northern Lights would be incredible.

I’ve really been into travelling at the moment. It’s all that I can research, there is so many beautiful places that I’d love to visit.

I know, I think New York is probably amazing any time of year but especially near Christmas

I’ve been lucky enough to visit NYC twice, last time was 2013, both times it’s been middle to end of November, although ‘THE’ Christmas Tree wasn’t unveiled, the shops were all decked out for Christmas, and there were sales everywhere. Both times we hit lucky with the weather, (no snow for me thank you) it was warm enough to walk around with light clothing on, though a strong pair of comfy shoes is essential. I agree a yellow taxi ride is a must, but the best way to see NYC is on foot. There are some fabulous restaurants and cafes, see Helene @ Brooklyn Blonde blog, she does a couple of NYC guides, we tried several of her recommendations for great places to eat and she knows her stuff. Balthazar’s is expensive but well worth it and the steamed pork buns at Momofuku Bar are wonderful, get there early around 11am, as they get busy. I tried on clothes that cost a lot more than I paid for my house, and couldn’t possibly afford but the assistants were always courteous and enthusiastic. NYC is full of surprises, the trick is to have an itinerary, but keep it flexible, because there is always going to be something to distract you. Love it and would go back again and again. Good luck with getting there, enjoy.
